The Weight of Being

I find I enjoy the inky darkness as it settles around my shoulders. I leave the gym and the air cools the sweat from my cheeks almost immediately. As I walk I remove my earphones and listen to the sounds of the night, summer sounds even on a surprisingly cold evening, I breathe heavily as I start the hill. It isn't far and the walk is over before I know it. The warm air of home envelopes me, but the quietness grasps my senses coldly, cruelly. Its dark, and I fumble desperately for switches. Light first then noise I mutter.

My brain almost unravels itself in these moments. I stand in the middle of the half-lit room wondering to myself 'How did I get here?' Suddenly there is no here, just confusion about life and the hugeness of it. At times like this all I can do is make my body so weary with exercise that I cannot think. I find at times like these I go to bed and toss and turn and then think too much, I search for the familiar face of the moon, anything familiar at all, because I know you will not be there, breathing beside me which is the only thing I want, or so says my heart.

I used to apologize for this, not anymore. There is no reason to, no one is a witness to my confusion, my little lapses of distress. Tomorrow the sun will rise, or the rain will fall, I will dress and fold laundry and wear my new sweater which smells of Bounce. I will change my handbags, and no one will know or feel the weight of it as much as I do.

Illumination

Illumination

keeping the light present

kindling the sun inside of you

when you are missing it on the outside

allowing its presence

to warm your soul

The Window of Divine Surprise

For awhile now Easter hasn't been a happy time for our family. Jonathan's birthday usually falls over the Easter weekend and many times on Easter Sunday itself. The phrase '..and He gave his only Begotten Son' rings loudly and painfully in my heart around this time, church services have become tearful experiences..and honestly more than I can bear this year.

I am not going to church this easter, this year when the sun rises on Sunday I will be walking across the hills of California with the sun on my shoulders revelling in the beauty which surrounds me.

I will be thinking and praying hard, surrounding my family with loving thoughts, reaching out to friends and touching them gently from afar. I will be thankful for the good in my life, and be hopeful for the future.... because the story of Easter is truly a wonderful window of divine surprise, one which I beleive, offers freedom from burdens, guilt and inner turmoil. It promises liberation, hope and new life.

And I will remember a Son begotten..not forgotten.

Comfort

I woke early this morning to a mist shrouded Solvang. The trees stark in the pre-dawn light, it will burn off and the day will be glorious, it usually is on days like this. The nights are freezing though.

Senga managed to rip my comforter to shreds the other night while I was at work, I couldn't believe the sight I came home to! Stuffing all over my bedroom, like some great big giant something had exploded..almost knocked the stuffing out of her..but didnt, she sat in the corner shivering, knowing that she had been A Very Bad Girl!! Anyhow, last night was a bit shivery for me without the exta layer, so today Im definitely buying a new one. Any excuse to hit Target!

After almost 2 months Nic had his cast removed! His leg has been x-rayed more times than a cargo of cannabis from Columbia, and they have discovered that the screw fixating his ankle has snapped in two. He probably put pressure on his heel at some point, (probably many times)...he is flying up next Wednesday to spend some time with me, Jenn, his girlfriend who has been fantastic during this time, really needs a break, and he certainly needs a new set of walls to stare at. I have some time off and am hoping to get him started on some physical therapy at a practice nearby.

I am spending the weekend with my mum in Bakersfield, (sister is away). I am hoping she will come back with me and spend the week here.

Maybe I should buy 3 comforters...

Touch

Gentle hands
of a stranger
move knowingly across my skin
as though my body were familiar territory
A soft fragrance of
lavender
patchouli,
a hint of rosemary
fill the air, while
water drips
My eyes resting sideways
on the horizon through
an open doorway,
close, as I sink
deeper into myself.
First one hand
a set of fingertips
then the other
run across the curves of my body
Candlelight flickers and
wrests reality from imagination
shadows twirl my emotion,
into itself
Again and again the hands move
warm with the friction
of skin upon skin.
Heat swathes my soul and Im
enveloped in a cocoon
of restoration
oOo
