Last night in my darkened room I dreamed of elephants. Within thin splinters of raw moonlight silent giants crossed my path to wallow in shallow water and drift in and out of trees. Wise eyes closed and opened slowly like the shutter of my camera, taking snaps of the world around them to store deep inside their ancient memories for future generations. I watched the restless feet of zebras in the white hot sun milling in the African dust a haze of movement through my weary mind. I heard the thud of hippo feet the snuffle and snork of midnight foraging as they lumbered through my subconscious, in the distance I also heard the roar of lions a drowsy melody meant to charm and hypnotize.
Somewhere in this waking dream I hear the urgent call of home, a summoning to leave on the next unscheduled breeze.
