Narrow Daylight

As I look around I see many who are struggling, with love and loss, distance, family and finances, illness..death....all the little and big sadness's that life invariably brings. Then I see the the kindness and caring for one another other ..and know that with a little time ...kindness wears away at that sadness, bitterness and lonliness, exposing the joy which lurks within....

I love this song, its full of hope and the promise of realizing that we are all much stronger than we think, even through the days when the daylight seems so narrow

Life is a bowl of Cherries

bowl of cherries

Cherries are in season....

Cherries as gorgeous and red and decadent and as seductive as any apple in Eden ever was.

I saw them at the store and brought some home yesterday. I rinsed them under cool water and in the dusk of a hot summer evening, without even bothering to turn on the lights, I sat down alone in my kitchen and ate them..

Days of Abundance

IMG_1368

Its a been a quiet week for me.

A change but quite nice to slow things down for a while. K left almost 2 weeks ago and while its NEVER easy being apart, we're a lot closer to resolving the distance thing than we ever were before, however that in itself is tough because we both feel as though we're marking time in a way. Not much I can do right now about any of the circumstances which is bit frustrating for me.

My mother is in Chicago for 2 weeks (yayy..which means I'm eating whenever and whatever I feel like..pajama/swimsuit day every day..sometimes all day..lordy how old am I??)

The dogs and I go for leisurely walks at sunset in the orchards, which are green and cool, and I never tire of the light on the canals as the sun sets. Ive collected a substantial amount of shells which lie on the banks alongside the canals, left there during the excavation process I assume. I have a shell project in mind not sure how it will turn out, but it should be fun to do.

The weather has been perfect, gorgeous summer days stretching into wonderfully cool quiet summer nights. Some nights I sit outside for hours listening to the sounds which are so exclusively night, I swim and sometimes there's a moon but most nights it hasn't risen over the trees yet. When I look back into the warm lights of the house I realize how incredibly lucky I am to live here. I climb into bed early and sleep with my patio door wide open, the cool night air wafting in on me and two spoiled dogs tucked up on either side of me.

I painted my 'sidewalk find' door, eventually! I didn't poll it but painted it purple in an effort to make amends with Katey, (after painting that garden bench white)..am hoping our friendship will be restored! I'm still not convinced of this doors purpose..lol..but it does look rather nice propped up against the fence in all its purple glory.

I thought I may have sushi every night this week, but then I killed the fish and now I'm not so sure I can eat sushi ever again. Its a long (very sad) story but the pond was full of algae and as I was walking past it with chlorine in a jug for the pool, I thought I should scoop the algae out with the net nearby. As I turned I knocked all the chlorine into the pond with the handle of the damn net. I rushed to get a bucket and filled it with water and scooped the goldfish out into the bucket, but they had already been poisoned and gasped and thrashed for a few minutes and died soon after. So that all needs to get sorted and fish replaced before mother gets back!!

During the holidays the family back home have more time to skype than usual, so that become an early morning routine for a few hours..playing games online together, sharing some hilarious you tube vids and been a part of ordinary day to day activities which I miss so much. I'm constantly amazed at technology and the computer ability of these kids, we really do have so much fun. Their time online is always strictly controlled and monitored and rightly so, school and sport keeps them so busy during term time as well so its nice just to kick back and relax and hear about their day, dinner, bedtime and then my day begins. Weird but wonderful in its own way.

I'm working tonight, but then off again for a few. Car in for a service tomorrow and then I think I may take a drive up into the Sequoia's on Tues or Wed, and I hope there's cell reception because man am I addicted to Words With Friends on my Iphone!!

THE RULES: Each week a new theme will be posted here on Friday morning. You are invited to put up your best picture on your own blog with that theme in mind, and you do have the whole weekend to post your picture, so there is no rush. Cutoff time is Sunday at midnight!

Remember it should be just ONE and ORIGINAL, taken by YOU,and not off the internet,

Then come back and leave a comment on this page in the comment box so that everyone can link to your blog and see your photo. Don't forget to OPEN your page to EVERYONE for that day.

By all means mention your camera and lens used, and if the picture has been altered or enhanced in any way, so we can all learn and improve our techniques.

Try and post a decent size picture on your blog page for an increased WOW factor. Often so much is lost or distorted if the size is too big or too small.

Remember this is NOT a competition, this about being creative having fun and being supportive of one another.

The theme this week is:

Vibrant

This pic of my two granddaughters was sent to me a few days ago, it was taken by my son-in-law (and not me) but is too evocative not to use for this weeks theme!!
